Report

It was nice to start a match with a full squad, with Niall back from his European tour and Dean back to fitness. The weather was horrendous, changing from sunny to showers to sleat to torrential rain, however we stood resilient  bringing the season to a close.

This was the second week in a row that we played Ringwood and no result would change their final position in the league however it is great to see that they have a fantastic Coaching Team behind them and a great bunch of lads in their healthy sized squad.

We started brightly and went ahead after 80 seconds after Mikey cut in from the right passing to Tony who laid the ball off for Ryan to fire home comfortably, 1-0. On 8 minutes Frank won a challenge on the left, ran several yards before releasing the ball to Tony in the box. Tony drove the ball under the keeper to make it 2-0. On 24mins again Frank won a challenge and powered forward before sending a RIGHT foot shot from 15 yards into the top right hand of the goal, 3-0. On 34 minutes Mikey cut in from the right beating a couple of players before shooting towards goal, the keeper managed to save but the rebound came back to Mikey who sent the ball towards Ryan who was on hand to flick it over the keeper to claim his second goal of the afternoon and ensure we ended the half 4-0.

The 2nd half continued much the same as the 1st however we struggled to get past the resolute Ringwood defence. During one barrage on goal, Ringwood managed to clear 5 of our shots on goal in succession. On 19 minutes into the 2nd half Fergie used some neat skill to dribble through two players before facing the keeper 1 on 1. His shot rebounded off the post for him to take a second stab which went narrowly wide. Our final goal of the season was a fitting way to finish off a season which has seen our style of play develop immensely. A high ball was brought down and controlled neatly by Mikey before he sent it cross field to Ryan, Ryan passed it through defenders for Tony to run on to and neatly chip the ball over the keeper into the net. 5-0.  Full Time 5-0.

Despite the difficult conditions, we played some very attractive football and the boys appeared to really enjoy playing the game which was great to see especially after their disappointment in the two cup finals. If they can build on the learnings from this season and develop their teamwork over the Summer they can look forward to a very exciting 2012/2013 season.

A special mention should go to Ringwood who unfortunately look like they will be dropping a league next season however kept Jacob busy by probably having more shots on target against us then any other team this season. Their set up is solid, their sporting attitude is a credit to them but above all their spirit is fantastic even at the end of a long and testing season. I have no doubt that they will bounce back up through promotion next season and we certainly will look forward to playing them again.
